Four themes exceeded 300 events at Climate Week NYC 2026, and at least one of the four appeared at 958 of the week’s 1,276 events—that’s about three in every four.
This year’s NYC Climate Week runs September 20–27. We reviewed every listing on the official calendar and counted events under each of the 12 themes tagged by organizers. Most events carry more than one tag (71% have two or more), so the theme totals add up to more than 1,276, but the outcome is clear. 75% of all events were related to the following themes.
The week's biggest topics of conversation
Policy, Governance & Leadership: 374 events. The biggest theme of the week. It was also the most-tagged theme on each of the four busiest days, Monday through Thursday.
Sustainable Living, Cities & Communities: 343 events. More than a third of these listings mention resilience or adaptation. This theme focused on both preparing for climate impacts and cutting emissions.
Climate & Health: 339 events. Health nearly tied with sustainable living events, and the two often appeared together. 109 events carry both tags, more than health shares with any other theme.
Energy & Electrification: 317 events. One in four energy listings mention the grid, and 55 mention data centers. Power demand from AI is now part of the energy story.
Across the rest of the calendar
- Resilience comes up everywhere. 386 listings mention adaptation or resilience. That's more events than any single theme had.
- AI has its own theme. 207 events carry the Technology & AI tag, and 82 listings across the calendar mention data centers.
- Much of the week happens behind closed doors. 339 events, roughly a quarter, are invite-only.
- Tuesday and Wednesday are the busiest days. They hold 672 events between them, more than half the week.
Behind closed doors
A quarter of this week's events were invite-only. That tracks with what we're seeing directly: as regulatory frameworks multiply, EUDR, ESRS, TNFD, CDP, GRI, etc., the conversations that matter most are shifting from public panels to small, working sessions between companies, regulators, and the organizations building the infrastructure to prove compliance rather than just report it.
We spent this Climate Week in exactly one of those rooms, alongside partners including Infor, Linklaters, and the WWF Markets Institute, discussing how a handful of first-mile data points can be mapped to dozens of overlapping global frameworks at once. It's a small example of the theme running through this whole calendar: reporting is being replaced by diligence, and the tools for doing that at scale are now in place.

Policy led all 12 themes. Transport & Travel had the fewest events, at 52.

How we counted
We used the official Climate Week NYC event calendar as it stood on September 22. The calendar removes days once they pass, so the September 20 and 21 listings come from copies of the calendar saved earlier on the Wayback Machine. Sunday's total may miss a few events added late.
We removed five placeholder test listings. Theme counts use the calendar's own tags. Topic mentions such as resilience, the grid and data centers come from a word search of event titles and descriptions.
